Not Less Than 60,000 Persons Have Graduated From DELSU –VC

…Says Prof. Aloamaka, Three Others Inspired His Style Of Ledaership

Vice-Chancellor, Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, has said that at least 60, 000 persons have graduated from the institution, saying DELSU has come a long way.

Prof. Egwunyenga spoke on Sunday during the 16th Pre-Convocation Thanksgiving Service that held at St. Paul’s Catholic Chaplaincy, Abraka.

He added: “In DELSU, I have noticed that in the last five years, there has been a unity of purpose amongst staff and students,” just as he said that this was one of the reasons why he achieved a lot in his tenure.

According to him, a lot of achievements occurred under him for which the university community should be thankful to God for.

Furthermore, he said that hardworking students, one of his drivers, Mr Sunday Nwabuike, Professor Peter Aloamaka and one other, Solomon Utiome, inspired his leadership style

Explaining, he hinted that his leadership style was influenced by hardworking students who he finds returning early in the morning after reading all through the night, saying this motivated him to ensure he gives the required leadership to match the commitment to academic excellence by such students.

He disclosed that he was also inspired by one of his drivers, Mr. Nwabuike who he said is always punctual to work despite not living in Abraka, saying that Nwabuike’s commitment always made him renew his commitment to perform excellently well as Vice Chancellor.

Speaking further, the VC said he also drew inspiration from Mr Solomon Utiome, who is physically challenged.

His words: “He struggled to earn his master’s degree. Even before he got his master’s degree and joined the academic staff of the university, he was organizing private lessons, teaching students Biochemistry and making many of them better students.”

He continued: “When I saw how physically challenged he was, I said we must do something to make the environment better and this inspired us to put ramps around every building in the university.”

Continuing, Egwunyenga said a former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Peter Aloamaka who returned to the university to study law and obtained first, second and PhD degrees and also registered to become a catechist and just graduated despite being a professor for over 25 years, inspired him greatly.

“These are my models of leadership because they have influenced me to do better,” he averred.
