Delta Hospitals Receive Donations Of Baby Cots From Canada Group

A Canadian group, the Urhobo-Isoko Association of Calgary, has made a generous donation of 44 baby cots to hospitals in Delta State.

The donation, presented on May 29th, 2024, aims to support the healthcare system and improve infant care in the region.

The baby cots, valued at a significant amount, was distributed among various hospitals in Delta State, including General Hospital Ekpan, General Hospital Agbarho, General Hospital Oleh, General Hospital Ozoro, and Ughelli General Hospital.

A former president of the Association Dr Duke Okoro, who announced the donations in a statement said, “the association, comprises individuals from the Urhobo and Isoko communities in Canada, that came together to make a positive impact in their homeland.

Presenting the items to the various hospitals, Dr Okoro, who is the current Rector, Federal Polytechnic Orogun, Delta State , represented at the event under the guidance of erstwhile president, Mr.Sylvester Oyibocha who initiated the gesture and with the full support of the current president of the association, Dr Phina Brooks, said that the donation is a testament to their commitment to giving back and making a difference in the lives of others.

Dr Okoro, speaking on behalf of the Association’s President, Dr Phina Brooks, said, “this generous act is expected to bring joy and relief to families and healthcare workers alike”.

The 44 baby cots, valued at a significant amount, according to him, have been distributed among various hospitals in Delta State, ensuring that more newborns have access to safe and comfortable care.

He, therefore announced that, of the 44 cots, General Hospital Ekpan received 10 cots, General Hospital Agbarho 10 cots, General Hospital Oleh 10 cots, General Hospital Ozoro 10 cots, while Ughelli General Hospital received 4 cots”.

In their separate reactions, hospital officials and community leaders, have expressed gratitude and commended the association for the kind gesture, emphasizing that the baby cots will greatly enhance their ability to provide quality care to newborns and their families.

In his remarks, President-General of Agbarho Kingdom, Chief Oghenekevwe Edoja, who sent some representatives, said this selfless act by the Urhobo Isoko Association of Calgary, Canada, would serve as an inspiration to others, even as he said it demonstrates the power of community and compassion.

“We commend the association for their kindness and commitment to making a positive impact in various communities in the state as we in our own part, we will continue to support the hospital and its management”.

The event was witnessed by top executive members of the Agbarha Kingdom, representatives of Dr Duke Okoro, Dr Ezoashi Val, Medical Director Mariere Memorial central Hospital Ughelli, Dr.Ezekiel, Government Hospital Agbarho, Dr Ufuoma Abeke, MD Ekpan General Hospital, Dr Christopher, Oleh Central Hospital as well as Dr Oboghor Benedict, MD Ozoro Hospital and a host of other Doctors, Nurses and hospitals staff.
