The police in Delta State have killed one suspected armed robber and arrested another, identified as Emeka Okafor, in Ekpan and Okpanam towns, respectively.

In a press release by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, it was reported that on 31/05/2024 at about 21:40 hrs, operatives of the Ekpan Divisional undercover surveillance patrol team, while on a routine patrol along Army Barracks Link Road off Refinery Road Ekpan, were double-crossed by a tricycle with three occupants in their usual style of robbing innocent citizens.

Upon noticing that they were policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels and a hot chase ensued, leading to the arrest of one suspect with a black bag containing a cut-to-size Double Barrel Gun and two Live Cartridges.

The statement revealed that the suspect confessed that the two other suspects who escaped were his gang members, involved in double-crossing victims, robbery, and occasional kidnappings.

“After interrogation, the suspect led the police to their hideout along NNPC Link Road, where he attempted to escape by jumping off a bridge and was injured by the police operatives. He was taken to Ekpan General Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

“Furthermore, on 2/6/24 at about 23:15 hrs, the DPO of Okpanam Division received a distress call reporting a robbery by seven young men on two motorcycles, targeting a young man (name withheld).

“The DPO and his team swiftly responded to the scene, causing the suspects to flee. While six suspects managed to escape, one of them, Emeka Okafor, was apprehended, and the motorcycle was recovered,” it added.
