DTHA Deputy Speaker, Akpowowo, Backs Anti-Human Trafficking Bill
The Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olorogun Barr Arthur Akpowowo, on Wednesday backed the Anti-Human Trafficking Bill at the State House of Assembly in Asaba, Delta State headquarters.
The former Commissioner for Urban Renewal of Delta State and the current legislator representing Ethiope East Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly said in his debate that human trafficking and the harvesting of human organs are new modern twists of crime.
Akpowowo added: “Human Trafficking has been with us for ages. But there is a modern twist to it; organ harvesting. It is very strange to us. It is a modern crime.
“It is pathetic that people will go to the hospital to carry out an operation and the doctor will harvest their organs without their knowing.
“I’m very sure that with this bill (AntiHuman Trafficking law) being passed into law, those who are in the business of harvesting people’s organs will be cautioned.
“It is life-threatening when you take people’s organs without their knowledge, it can lead the victims to a shortened lifespan.
“Mr Speaker, on behalf of my constituents, the extremely good people of Ethiope East State Constituency, I am in support of this bill and I urge all my colleagues to support this bill so that it can be passed within the speed of light,” Akpowowo said.
Meanwhile, the bill prohibiting Human Trafficking in Delta State, on the floor of the State House of Assembly has passed its second reading.
Oasis Magazine gathered that the said bill is an Executive Bill.
