Mr Governor, I hope this SOS meets you in good fate. The escalating insecurity in Sapele, Delta State, has reached a critical point. The alarming increase in criminal activities such as breaking and entering, theft, murder, and kidnapping necessitates immediate and decisive action. There is an urgent need for a state of emergency on security in Sapele

Sapele has become a safe haven for criminal elements who carry out heinous acts with impunity. The frequency of robberies, assaults, kidnappings and maiming of victims has surged leaving Sapele residents in a constant state of fear and anxiety. The perpetrators not only rob their victims but also inflict severe injuries, often resulting in fatalities. Few days ago four persons were kidnapped at different locations in Sapele.

A recent incident on Ugberikoko Road saw a gang of criminals robbing residents and inflicting various degrees of injuries on them. A young tricycle rider was brutally attacked and succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical attention. This criminals; we learnt carryout out their devious act with an accompanying POS machine used in withdrawing large sums of money from the accounts of their victims, and till date no effort has been made by the security apparatus in Sapele to track down these gangs even with the information from the POS transactions.

In the same vein, nearly four individuals were kidnapped in Sapele a few days ago. To date, there has been no sign of rescue or any reassuring information from the police regarding their efforts to recover the kidnapped victims.

The lack of effective policing has exacerbated the situation. Daily reports of door-to-door robberies go unaddressed, with no suspects being apprehended. This has led to a pervasive sense of insecurity among the residents, who now sleep with their eyes open, constantly on alert for any signs of criminal activity.

Given the current state of affairs, it is imperative to declare a state of emergency on security in Sapele. This will enable the deployment of additional security forces and resources to combat the rising tide of crime and restore order. The primary responsibility of any government is to protect the lives and property of its citizens. The current level of insecurity in Sapele is untenable and requires immediate intervention to prevent further loss of life and property.

Declaring a state of emergency will also help restore public confidence in the government’s ability to ensure their safety. It will send a strong message to the criminal elements that their actions will not be tolerated and that the authorities are committed to restoring law and order.
