Sri Lankan Navy Arrests 8 Indian Fishermen For Poaching
The Sri Lankan navy has arrested eight Indian fishermen for illegally fishing in the country’s territorial waters, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
The arrests occurred on Monday during a special operation aimed at stopping Indian trawlers from poaching in the waters north of Mannar, situated in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province. Along with the fishermen, the navy seized a trawler used in the operation, the statement added.

The apprehended fishermen and their trawler have been handed over to local authorities for legal action. This latest incident brings the total number of Indian poaching trawlers seized in 2024 to 46, with 341 Indian fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan navy so far this year.
