Navy Dismiss, Hand Three-Year Jail Term To Officer Over Affair With Colleague’s Wife
The Nigerian Navy has dismissed Lieutenant SN Obini and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of engaging in a scandalous affair with a fellow officer’s wife.
The disciplinary action followed a Special Court Martial (SCM) convened by Naval Headquarters in Abuja, which concluded that Obini’s actions breached multiple sections of the Armed Forces Act (AFA) and the Criminal Code.
According to official sources, the judgment—comprising both dismissal and jail term—was implemented on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Nigerian Navy Institute of Technology (NNIT) Parade Ground in Sapele. The sentence took effect retroactively from November 23, 2024.

Lieutenant Obini faced four charges, including having unlawful sexual relations with a colleague’s spouse contrary to section 79 of the AFA, scandalous conduct under section 91 of the AFA, and two counts of deceiving a witness under section 122 of the Criminal Code Act, pursuant to section 114 of the AFA.
A legal review of the trial confirmed that the officer was properly arraigned and afforded due process, with the Navy Board upholding the court’s decision to dismiss and imprison him.
