Why Anambrarians Celebrate Anambra Day Like Christmas – Onuora

A patron of Ogbako Ndi Anambra in Delta State, Nze Francis Onuora has explained why Anambra Indigenes otherwise known as Anambrarians in Delta State particularly in Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts celebrate Anambra Day like Christmas.
Nze Onuora who is a Senior Special Assistant ( SSA) to Governor Oborevwori on Non Indigenes Affairs, spoke to our correspondent in an exclusive media chat on the celebration of annual event at Urhobo College, Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area last weekend.
The highly respected chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts stated that besides the commemoration of the creation of Anambra State alongside with Imo and Delta states in August 27th 1991,the annual event was also aimed at fostering unity among Anambrarians in the area.
He proudly and gladly noted that the group has so far achieved this purpose as he remarked that unity and progress among the Anambrarians were wonderful and that they have acquired three plots of land in Shaghwolor Area in Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area where he said they held their meetings and that they acquired another three acres of land in neighboring Jeddo Community in Okpe Local Government Area where he said that they will be celebrating the annual event when the land is developed.
Onuora also said that Anambra State is the center of Igbos, as he stated that the land has produced great men like the Azikiwes, Ojukwus, Ekwumes, Chinuaachebes, Chiamadas among others.
He however quickly added that all Igbos are one people.

Onuora described the relationship between Anambrarians and their host communities as very cordial as he stated that establishment of a cordial relationship with ones host community guarantees peace.
He further stated that the relationship between Anambrarians nay the Igbos with Delta State Government was wonderful, saying that Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori has made the Igbos have a sense of belonging in Delta State.
“You know His Excellency, Rt Hon Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori cannot be everywhere. We, his appointees are his representatives.
“We shall ever remain loyal and grateful to him,” he added.
The popular sports wears and equipment merchant earlier stated that this year’s annual celebration of Anambra Day scheduled to hold in Urhobo College, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area on Sunday promises to be great as he proudly and gladly disclosed that it will feature the rich cultural heritage of the Anambra people in cultural dances, wrestling, match past, raffle draws, presentation of trophies to winners of Ogbako Ndi Anambra Day football tournament among others.
He further hinted that about 60 out of the 179 communities that comprised the great Anambra State will participate with their various canopies at the annual event.
