The Elite Politics Of Oil And Gas: A Tale Of Suffering Masses

One wonders why the government chooses to let the masses bear the brunt of the political crisis engulfing the government and their oil and gas business partners.

Presidents Umaru Musa Yaradua, Goodluck Jonathan, and Mohammadu Buhari consistently echoed that Nigeria has no issues subsidizing fuel.
However, the real issue lies in the scam surrounding fuel subsidy.

It’s noteworthy that fuel, which the government subsidizes for citizens, is a byproduct of crude oil.
Nigeria, blessed with an abundance of crude oil, explores it relentlessly in the Niger Delta. Yet, the nation struggles with one of its byproducts. This paradox exposes the type of leadership in place.

While past presidents lamented the fuel subsidy scam, they failed to name and shame the oil marketers involved. Security operatives couldn’t identify or advise on their activities but instead targeted hungry and angry Nigerians demanding true patriotism.

The solution lies in a responsible and responsive government. Our leaders seem clueless, hard-hearted, and lacking in visionary foresight. Addressing the subsidy scam shouldn’t be a big deal. Are the marketers more powerful than the country? Are their interests worth the lives of Nigerians dying daily due to hunger?

The adverse effects of fuel subsidy removal on our economy are evident.
Inflation is killing us faster than a bullet. We can’t continue like this. It’s astonishing that a minority of our people devise means to defend these political and oil frauds for political gains.

The solution is simple:

1. Return fuel subsidy.
2. Implement measures to tackle the scam.
3. Name, shame, and prosecute scammers.
4. Sponsor a bill to classify subsidy scam as a heinous crime.
5. If removing fuel subsidy is necessary, take measures to reduce pressure on fuel:
– Work on our roads.
– Work on our electricity.
– Declare a state of emergency on the above two.
– Device alternative energy sources for transportation.

If we fail to address these concerns, we should be prepared to bear the consequences. The rage in the hearts of the people is high, and there’s an urgent need for peace, love, and unity.
