2027: Ughelli North PDP Rallies Behind Umurhohwo, Intensifies Grassroots Mobilisation

Ahead of the 2027 general election, leaders, elders, executives and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State have held an enlarged meeting to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure and intensify mobilisation across wards and polling units.

The meeting brought together party stakeholders and faithful from across the local government area to review the state of the party, strengthen internal coordination and discuss strategies for taking its message directly to voters ahead of the elections.

Addressing the gathering, the PDP candidate for the Delta State House of Assembly, Ughelli North Constituency II, Hon. Oke Umurhohwo, commended party leaders, ward and unit executives, and members who remained committed to the PDP despite the political realignments that saw several prominent members move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umurhohwo thanked members for their resilience and continued commitment to keeping the party active at the grassroots, noting that their loyalty during a difficult period had been critical to sustaining and rebuilding the PDP in Ughelli North.

He also outlined key aspects of his legislative agenda for Ughelli North Constituency II, including better and accessible representation, youth and human capital development, economic opportunity, stronger communities and accountable government.

Umurhohwo reiterated that, if elected, his representation would be built around regular engagement with constituents, stressing that elected representatives must remain accessible to the people and accountable for the mandate entrusted to them.

Speaking at the meeting, Olorogun Scot Udu expressed confidence in Umurhohwo’s candidacy, describing him as the most sellable and competent candidate among those seeking to represent Ughelli North Constituency II in the House of Assembly.

Udu urged party members to recognise the strength of the candidate before them and work collectively to translate that advantage into victory at the polls.

Also speaking, Chief George Osikorobia recalled his own political experience in 1999, when he emerged victorious in the Ughelli North Local Government Council election despite the odds he faced at the time.

Drawing parallels with the present political situation, Osikorobia expressed optimism that determination, grassroots support and the favour that accompanied his own electoral victory could similarly work in Umurhohwo’s favour in 2027. He prayed for a successful outcome for the PDP candidate.

On his part, Chief Jawhono Orovwoni told party members that the responsibility of delivering the House of Assembly election could not be left to the candidate or a handful of party leaders.

He urged members to take personal ownership of the campaign, return to their respective communities and political bases, and actively spread Umurhohwo’s candidacy among voters.

According to Orovwoni, electoral victory would require collective effort across the party, with every member taking responsibility for mobilising support within his or her sphere of influence.

Speaking on behalf of the ward chairmen, Agbarho Ward Chairman, Itina Bruno, reaffirmed the commitment of the ward leadership to strengthening the PDP at the grassroots and working towards the party’s success in the forthcoming elections.

Party leaders at the gathering also commended Umurhohwo for his contributions and sacrifices towards sustaining the PDP in Ughelli North, particularly during the period of political realignment in Delta State.

The meeting concluded with a renewed call for sustained door-to-door mobilisation, with members urged to take the campaign into communities, streets and polling units across Ughelli North Constituency II ahead of the 2027 general election.
