Ogwashi-Uku Lawyer On The Run From Police, Faces New Violence, Fraud Charges

The Inspector General of Police has filed fresh charges under Charge No. MO/124C/2024 against Uchenna Agummadu, Chukwuede Nduka, and several others, including Mayor Okolie, Victor Ohakwusie, Augustine Utulu, Pastu Obi, Eche Morph, and Tallest, on a seven-count charge.

The charges include grievous harm punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, and behaviour likely to incite a breach of peace by entering a disputed property currently under litigation in the Court of Appeal, where a court order requires all parties to stay away.

Reports reveal that Barrister Francis Okolie, also known as Mayor Okolie, and the other suspects allegedly launched a violent attack on vigilante members in Azagba Ogwashi-Uku, inflicting deep wounds and serious injuries that are still under medical treatment.

Notably, Barrister Okolie is also facing terrorism, attempted murder, and additional charges under Charge No. FHC/ASB/18C/2024 at the Federal High Court in Asaba.

In an interview with Zone 5 Police, a policeman confirmed that charges against the suspects have been filed and the suspects arrested so far have been remanded to prison custody following the magistrate’s order for a prompt trial at the Magistrate Court in Ogwashi-Uku.

The trial commenced today, with a strong call for swift justice to address the violence affecting local peace and safety.

The police further disclosed that Barrister Okolie remains at large not only based on the current charges at the Magistrate court but is also sought after by authorities due to a petition from Barrister Joy Ifeoma Chinedu & Co.

The petition alleges that Okolie forged documents related to a land purchase, altering her client, Mr. Charles Obi’s 200-plot purchase to only 100 plots.

The police have reaffirmed their commitment to apprehend Okolie and other suspects still evading arrest, emphasizing that bringing them to justice is critical to restoring peace and stability in Ogwashi-Uku.

Residents in the Ogwashi-Uku community have expressed alarm at the persistent violence, urging law enforcement to act decisively in restoring security.

The recent events have heightened local anxieties, with community leaders emphasizing that urgent action is essential for the welfare and peaceful coexistence of all residents in the kingdom.
