Delta Journalists Applaud Gov. Oborevwori’s Appointment Of Michael Ikeogwu As SSA

The appointment of Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has been widely commended by journalists in Delta State.

Ikeogwu, a Deputy General Manager at The Pointer newspaper, previously served as National Ex-Officio of the NUJ and chaired the Credentials Committee that oversaw the election of the Union’s current National Executive led by Comrade Alhassan Yahaya. His colleagues describe him as a consummate journalist and a distinguished union leader, whose appointment is a testament to his exceptional leadership, dedication to public service, and commitment to national development.

“We are delighted with the news of Michael Ikeogwu’s appointment as SSA Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,” journalists said during a celebratory gathering at the Press Center, Asaba. They hailed the decision as a well-deserved acknowledgment of Ikeogwu’s relentless efforts in advancing growth and development in Delta State and Nigeria.

Recognizing Ikeogwu’s grassroots mobilization expertise, a former Vice Chairman of the Delta State Council of NUJ and Bureau Chief of The Leadership Newspaper, Felix Igbekoyi, the Chairman of the State Information Chapel of the Union, Kenneth Obieh amongst others expressed confidence that his appointment would strengthen the state’s publicity framework, benefiting both the NUJ and the State. “His loyalty, hard work, and generosity make him a perfect fit for this role,” they added.

Ikeogwu Vows to Support Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda

Responding to the recognition, Ikeogwu expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged unwavering commitment to Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which focuses on meaningful development for all Deltans, poverty alleviation, improved education access, and infrastructure development.

“I understand the Governor’s vision for Delta and will work diligently with other appointees to achieve the administration’s goals. I will bring my extensive experience to bear, ensuring honesty, sincerity, and professionalism in all aspects of my work,” he stated.

Ikeogwu emphasized his commitment to humility and collaboration, promising to remain receptive to diverse perspectives and to prioritize the welfare of the state over personal accolades. “I have not been appointed to seek self-glory but to contribute meaningfully to the Governor’s transformative agenda for Delta State,” he concluded.
