Say No To Drugs, Ughelli Council Boss Charges Youths
The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has made a clarion call to the youths within the local government to desist from drug abuse, especially during this season of the birth of Jesus Christ.
In a press release issued from his office on December 17, 2024, the council boss emphasized the importance of maintaining a drug-free lifestyle to secure a brighter future for the youth and the community at large.
Olorogun Egbo expressed concern over the alarming rise in drug abuse and its negative impact on the lives of young people, including their physical health, mental well-being, and societal contributions.
He passionately appealed to youths to focus on academic excellence and other productive endeavors, describing education as a cornerstone for success and achievement in life.
“The Christmas season is a time of reflection, renewal, and celebration. It is also an opportunity for our youth to make meaningful resolutions that will positively shape their futures. I urge all young people to prioritize education, stay away from drugs, and channel their energy toward building a prosperous tomorrow,” the chairman stated.
Furthermore, the chairman used the platform to call on parents and guardians to play a more active role in the upbringing and monitoring of their children.
He described parents as the first line of defense and “watchdogs” who have a vital responsibility to guide their children and shield them from negative influences.
“Insecurity remains a major challenge in our society, and it is often fueled by drug abuse and delinquent behaviors among our youth. As parents and guardians, we must be vigilant and committed to nurturing our children in ways that instill discipline and positive values. If we work together, we can ensure that the menace of insecurity becomes a thing of the past by 2025,” he added.
Olorogun Jaro Egbo also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting youth development through initiatives aimed at providing educational opportunities and creating an enabling environment for young people to thrive. He called on religious institutions, community leaders, and stakeholders to support these efforts by fostering awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of education.
As the festive season approaches, the chairman’s message serves as a timely reminder for families and communities to reflect on their shared responsibility in shaping a peaceful and progressive society. His words resonate as a call to action for everyone to contribute meaningfully to the development of Ughelli North Local Government Area.
In conclusion, Olorogun Jaro Egbo expressed optimism that with collective efforts, the challenges facing the youth can be overcome. He encouraged all residents of Ughelli North to celebrate the season responsibly and strive towards building a brighter and more secure future for all.
