DELSU Holds Orientation Exercise For Fresh Students

Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, on Wednesday held the 2025 orientation exercise for newly admitted students for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The event took place at the university’s Convocation Arena, Site 3.

Speaking during the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Ochuko Onomohanran, welcomed the students, just as he encouraged them to embrace academic excellence and good moral conduct.

He also urged the students to focus on their academics, shun illegal activities and obey the rules and regulations of the University.

According to him, the university established 33 years ago has contributed immensely to the manpower needs of the country and beyond.

Adding: ‘Our graduates are blazing the trail and setting the pace all over the world.”

Meanwhile, he hinted that he is committed to ensuring that students’ welfare is given utmost priority.

On his part, the Dean, Students’ Affairs, Professor Ignatius Njoseh while delivering the welcome address, urged the students to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities available to them at the university, while emphasizing the importance of discipline, diligence and respect for university regulations.

In his words: “At DELSU, we pride ourselves on providing not just an education but a holistic experience that equips our students to excel in academics, build character and prepare for meaningful contributions to society.

He continued: “Today’s orientation marks the beginning of a new chapter in your lives, one filled with opportunities, challenges and incredible potential for growth.”

The event was not only informative but also entertaining, featuring a variety of activities to engage the students.

To spice up the event, a dance competition was held for the new students.

The winner, Victory Ojefia from the Department of Political Science Education as well as the first and second runners-up, received cash prices.

The auspicious event held for the over 8, 000 new students had lectures on topics such as ‘Campus Security’, Academic Ethics’, Religious Activities on Campus’, ‘Awareness and Dangers of Secret Cults’, Drugs and Prostitution’, University Health Services’ and the ‘Proper use of University Facilities were delivered.

The speakers also hinted on the University’s Administrative Structure and due process, prospectus, morality and academic matters.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and interact with university officials during a Q&A session.

The orientation program was a memorable event for the students, setting a positive tone for their time at DELSU.

Some prominent members of the management team that graced the event include the Registrar, Mrs Rufina Ufiofio represented by the Deputy Registrar, Mrs Peace Irogbo, Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Hilary Owamah represented by the Deputy Director of CIPR, Dr. Patrick Ijeh, Director, UHS, Dr. Bobola Agbonle and Rev. Fr. (Dr) Bar. James Urien.

The matriculation ceremony for the new students is scheduled to take place February 1, 2025.
