DELSU VC, Asagba, Reaffirms Support For Urhobo Studies

The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba has reaffirmed his administration’s support for Urhobo studies in the Department of Languages and Linguistics.
Prof. Asagba pledged his administration’s support for Urhobo studies during a meeting with the Urhobo Studies Association (USA) on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
The Chairman of the Association, Prof. (Mrs.) Rose Aziza who was represented by the Vice Chairman and Dean of Postgraduate School, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada, had sought the VC’s backing for the upgrade of the language laboratory and 20th-anniversary celebrations, featuring a workshop and conference in September 2025.

Prof. Asagba emphasised the importance of prioritising language development, citing the Chinese as a prime example and highlighted how China’s investment in language preservation and promotion has contributed to the language’s global significance.
