Tension In Warri As House Completely Gets Burnt In Okere-Urhobo Area

There was tension in Warri as a house in the Okere Urhobo area of Iyara owned by Jerry Okolosi was completely burnt at about 7pm on Sunday, 6th April, 2025
Obire street down to the Okere Urhobo Community was under tension as there were sounds of gunshots in the area last night.
Those behind the arson were yet to be identified and the cause of the tension was yet to be known at the time of filing this report.
However a native of Okere Urhobo Community in the area, Chief Omode Iyara, narrated that the 2nd coronation anniversary poster of HRM Dr Morris Oghenechuko Eyekpimi – Egboboyen Owhotemu 11, the Orosuen (traditional ruler) of Okere Urhobo displayed on their side of the area was allegedly removed and taken away by youths suspected to be Itsekiris from the other side of Iyara.
“When we demanded for it from them, they said we have no right to display the poster of the coronation anniversary of our traditional ruler in our community.
“And as early as 7pm yesterday, a compound was completely razed as you can see,” Chief Iyara said.
Chief Omode also narrated that the incident has been reported to the police and that the Police Area Commander, Warri Police Area Command has invited leaders of the Urhobo and Itsekiri areas of Iyara to his office for a meeting at 1pm today, Monday, 7th April, 2025 .
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the story.
Meanwhile the celebration of the 2nd coronation anniversary of HRM Morris Oghenechuko Eyekpimi – Egboboyen Owhotemu 11, the Orosuen (traditional ruler) Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Warri (whose ancestral home is Iyara) has been on and with its climax today Monday 7th April, 2025 .
