Sapele Lawmakers Seek Urgent Road Repairs, Appeal To Council Chairman

The Sapele 8th Legislative Arm, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Samuel Azu, convened its weekly plenary session at the Council Legislative Chamber in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, with deliberations centered on the pressing infrastructure challenges confronting residents within the locality.

The highlight of the session emerged when lawmakers unanimously agreed to make a formal and humble appeal to the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Council, Hon. Bright Abeke, urging him to immediately address the deplorable conditions of several roads across the local government area.

The affected roads identified during the session include the Gana/Ugberikoko axis, Cemetery Road by Yoruba Road junction, Okirigbagha axis, the long-abandoned NDDC Road, among others. The legislators noted that these roads have become a source of untold hardship for residents, commuters, and businesses operating within the council area.

Leader Azu, in his address, emphasized that the legislature, as a voice of the people, must not remain silent while constituents suffer due to failed road infrastructure. “We owe it to our people to speak up on issues that affect their daily lives. The state of these roads has reached a level that demands immediate government attention,” he stated.

Lawmakers took turns to share firsthand accounts from their various wards, citing the deteriorating state of these roads and the economic and social implications on the communities they represent. They stressed that bad roads not only hinder commercial activities but also pose serious safety concerns, especially during the rainy season.

Among councillors in attendance were Deputy House Leader, Hon. Solomon Eguonor Ejokpaoghene; Hon. Osaretin Aisien; Hon. Egbeta Ufuoma; and Hon. Christopher Ayomanor, all of whom supported the resolution to appeal to the council chairman for urgent intervention.

The lawmakers resolved that a formal letter be drafted and transmitted to the office of Hon. Bright Abeke, conveying the collective plea of the legislative arm for immediate rehabilitation of the identified roads. They also expressed willingness to support the executive arm in prioritizing infrastructure development within available resources.

The plenary session was brought to a close with a motion for adjournment moved by Hon. Gabriel Omofeye, who represents Ward 11, and was duly seconded by Hon. Sylvester Adjevwe of Ward 8. The sitting concluded with a closing prayer led by Hon. Stella Agbofodobo, representing DSIEC Ward 15.

A total of 19 councillors were in attendance, reflecting strong legislative presence and unity of purpose in tackling grassroots challenges.
