Security Turnaround In Ogwashi-Uku: Town Union Commends Delta Police, Obi For Improved Safety

The Ogwashi-Uku Town Union (OTU) has applauded the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, for his decisive intervention in addressing the prolonged security challenges in Ogwashi-Uku.

The Union also extended appreciation to His Majesty, Obi (Dr.) Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, for his leadership and collaboration with security agencies in tackling insecurity across the kingdom.

Speaking on behalf of the Town Union, community leader, Mr. Francis Osude emphasized the need to recognize and commend effective policing.

> “Most of the time, we only hear negative stories about the police. It is equally important that we commend the police when they do well. The CP, Delta State Command, deserves appreciation for the significant improvement we have witnessed in Ogwashi-Uku’s security situation since November last year,” Osude stated.

A major turning point in the town’s security situation was the replacement of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Ogwashi-Uku. CP Abaniwonda appointed CSP Israel Okoyomon as the new DPO, a move that the community says has yielded immediate and positive results.

“CSP Okoyomon has taken on the security challenges in Ogwashi-Uku head-on. With strong support from the State Command, he has restructured the local crime-fighting strategy and revitalized the community vigilante system in a way that aligns with intelligence-led policing,” Osude said.

The Union praised the improved synergy between the police and the Ogwashi-Uku community, noting that residents have observed a marked reduction in criminal activity, particularly in previously troubled farming areas.

Beyond law enforcement, the OTU commended the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, who has remained deeply involved in community safety efforts. His Majesty’s interventions have included boundary dispute resolutions, coordination with vigilante groups, and consultations with government and security agencies to address underlying causes of unrest.

“This is a textbook case of what can be achieved when traditional leadership and the police work together. Without the active involvement and support of our Obi, many of these successes would not have been possible,” Osude remarked.

The Ogwashi-Uku Town Union urged continued collaboration between the police, traditional institutions, and local stakeholders, stressing that sustaining peace requires collective vigilance and ongoing strategic engagement.
