Social Vices: DESOPADEC Takes Sensitization Campaign To Jigbale Market
…As Traders, Parents Laud Initiative

The Department of Community Development and Public Enlightenment, CDPE, under the auspices of the Directorate of Social Services, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, headed by the Executive Director, Chief Favour Izoukumor today 30th October, 2025 carried out a sensitization campaign on the dangers of drug abuse, cultism, prostitution and other social vices to the ever busy Jigbale market in Udu Local Government Area.
Today’s campaign which is against the various forms of social vices, aimed at shining a spotlight on these pressing issues, also sought to provide traders/parents with the tools and resources required to navigate through the temptations and pressures they faced.
Speaking fervently to traders/parents, the Resource persons, Ms. Elizabeth Odisu and Ms. Honeywell Ebirajolo spoke on the reasons people take illicit drugs; the after effects on their bodies and their families; the signs one should look out for in their children as parents and lastly, what to do to render them the required help they need.
The Head of the Department of Community Development and Public Enlightenment, CDPE, DESOPADEC, Mrs. Chinenye Ezonfade while addressing the traders/parents emphasized the belief of the Executive Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori in human capital development which is a cardinal point in achieving his M.O.R.E Agenda.

Some traders whose children are involved in illegal intake of drugs expressed their pain and asked for the assistance of the State government.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of gifts by the Head of CDPE, Mrs. Chinenye Ezonfade to the four best participants in a quiz session namely: Mrs. Akpesiri Blessing who took the first position; Mrs. Evelyn Temile who came out 2nd; Miss Chinenye Winifred who came out 3rd and lastly, Mrs. Anthonia Esume who took the 4th position and consolation prizes to all that asked questions.
The traders/parents who expressed their overwhelming joy and satisfaction towards the event commended DESOPADEC for coming up with a timely programme of this magnitude and showered their prayers on DESOPADEC and the State Government.
