31st DELSU SUG Hands Over

The 31st Administration of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, officially handed over leadership to the 32nd Administration during a formal inauguration ceremony held on Monday, 15 December 2025, at the 750 Hall A Lecture Theatre, Site III.

The event, attended by students, university officials, and stakeholders, symbolised continuity, accountability, and the peaceful transition of student leadership.

The ceremony commenced with welcome remarks from the Public Relations Officer, Mr Henry Ikechukwu Eseka, who introduced distinguished guests, including representatives of the university’s principal officers.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Edmund Atakpo.

Other notable attendees included the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Ignatius Njoseh, the Deputy Director of Ceremonials, Information and Public Relations, Dr Ese Umukoro, and the Chief Security Officer to the Vice-Chancellor, Mr Michael Tager amongst others.

In his address, Mr. Eseka praised the outgoing SUG President, Amb. Dr Onovughegor Augustine, describing him as an exceptional leader.

“In the history of this university that I have seen and known, with so many presidents of the Students’ Union, I must sincerely confess that the current president is an exceptional president,” he added.

The Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Njoseh, highlighted Dr. Onovughegor’s commitment to student welfare, noting his readiness to advocate firmly when needed and to negotiate diplomatically.

“Students’ welfare was paramount in his time. Personally, I will miss you,” he said.

He thanked the outgoing executives for their dedicated service and wished them success in their future endeavours, adding: “Thank you for serving with your whole heart. We appreciate you. God bless you wherever you go. May you rise very high, above the sky which will not even be your limit, but your stepping stone.”

He also informed the incoming administration of an upcoming meeting with shuttle and tricycle operators to review inflated transport rates on campus, an issue previously addressed by the 31st Administration.

In his farewell speech, the outgoing President, Amb. Dr Onovughegor Augustine, reflected on his tenure, which spanned one year and an additional four months.

He highlighted key achievements, challenges overcome, and lessons learned, while acknowledging the contributions of his executives, faculty and departmental executives, hostel executives, the Supreme Students’ Senate, the Students’ Representative Council, and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

“I stand before you, proud, humbled, and full of joy. NOT just as an outgoing Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, but as a DOCTOR whose life has been forever changed by this privilege. We inherited a dream, and we left a legacy.” he declared.

He emphasised that welfare, representation, and unity were not mere agenda but fulfilled promises.

Advising his successor, he said: “The bar is high, very high. The people trust you, and the future roars. Lead with heart, innovate and remember the students are the pulse.”

Prof. Njoseh introduced members of various student bodies for recognition, including hostel executives from halls such as Executive Hostel, NDDC, Male Medical, Female Medical, Eco, Ethiope, Abraka, and Council Hostel, as well as members of the Students’ Representative Council, the Supreme Students’ Senate, and executives from the Oleh and Abraka campuses.

The new executive members of the 32nd Administration were sworn in by Barr. Ojeh Emmanuel, representing the Chief Judge, Barr. Okoh Gospel.

Other sworn-in officials included the 1st Vice President (Oleh Campus), Sen. Achurefe Favour Ebruwiyor, 2nd Vice President (Abraka Campus), Comr. Anthony Gladys, Secretary General, Hon. Comr. Oliseyenum Victory, Director of Health, Safety and Environment, Sen. Comr. Akande Bukola Aforkoghene, Director of Finance, Comr. Idudhe Orevaoghene Emma, Director of Welfare, Hon. Comr. Angel Oluebubechukwu Nnabuife, Director of Sports, Comr. Sunday Collins Efe, Senior Treasurer, Hon. Comr. Raph-Otoja Ochuko, Director of Socials and Cultural Affairs, Comr. Iteh Ruth Precious, Director of Information/Public Relations, Comr. Oluwabusayo Oloruntobi, and Director of Humanitarian Services and Value Orientation, Comr. Nwafor Happiness Chiamaka.

In his acceptance speech, the President, Amb. Sen. Dumuje pledged inclusive governance, transparency, and a renewed focus on student interests.

“I stand before you today with a heart full of gratitude, a mind focused on purpose, and a spirit energized by the weight of responsibility you have placed upon my shoulders,” he said.

He committed to building on the legacy of the 31st Administration, prioritising student welfare, a conducive learning environment, and open communication.

“The 32nd Student Union Government begins today with hope, with energy, with vision, and with an unshakeable commitment to serving every single student at Delta State University.”

He urged students and associations to collaborate in realising the union’s vision.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Atakpo commended the smooth electoral process, noting the absence of complaints. “I’m happy with the outcome of the electoral process. It shows you are ready to lead well.” he said.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from the new Secretary General, Hon. Comr. Oliseyenum Victory, and goodwill messages praising the outgoing administration’s service while charging the new leadership to govern with integrity and vision.

The handover marks the end of a notable chapter under the 31st Administration and the beginning of fresh efforts to advance student representation at DELSU.
