Akpowowo Mourns, As Nwaoboshi Dies At 68

Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Olorogun Arthur Akpowowo has mourned the death of a former senator and Delta State politician, Peter Nwaoboshi, who died at the age of 68.

He took to his Facebook page on Friday to mourn the death of the former senator who he described as his “senior brother, boss, leader and a friend.”

He added: “While I mourn with his immediate family, the NWAOBOSHIIS, Ibusa community, Oshimili North and entire Delta State, I pray the Almighty God to accept his soul and grant eternal rest in His bosom.

“Adieu Aguajejemba.”

Nwaoboshi represented Delta North Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate from 2015 to 2023.

He previously served as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State before defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2021. During his time in the Senate, he was Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.

His political career drew national attention following money-laundering charges that resulted in a Court of Appeal conviction in 2022. However, in 2023, the Supreme Court overturned the conviction, clearing him and the companies involved.

Nwaoboshi was a prominent and influential figure in Delta State politics, remembered both for his political roles and the high-profile legal controversies that marked his public life.
