DELSU VC Appoints Immediate Past SUG President As Special Adviser

The management of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has appointed Dr. Augustine Onovughegor as the Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel O. Asagba, on Student Engagement.
In an official letter dated December 16, 2025, and signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Rufina U. Ufiofio, the university announced the appointment of Dr. Onovughegor, who recently served as the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the university.
The letter, addressed to Onovughegor holds “I am pleased to inform you that you have been appointed to serve as Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Students’ Engagements, Delta State University, Abraka.”
In this role, Onovughegor will be responsible for advising the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel O. Asagba, on issues relating to students’ engagement.

The appointment takes effect from December 17, 2025, and is for an initial period of one year, subject to the university’s rules and regulations governing such appointments, and is entitled to a monthly allowance.
Dr. Onovughegor has been a prominent figure in student leadership at DELSU. Earlier this year, he gained attention for awarding a ₦1 million cash prize to the university’s best graduating student during the 17th Convocation Ceremony and for leading student involvement in community protests against insecurity in Abraka.
This appointment is seen as a strategic move by the university administration to strengthen ties between management and the student body, ensuring direct input from student leadership on matters affecting campus life and engagements.
