Meet Our Demands, Ijaw, Itsekiri Tell Alero Flow Station

Leaders from the various Ijaw communities from Egbema Kingdom under Alero Flow Station in Warri North local government area of Delta State have called on the Federal, State, Local Governments as well as relevant authorities to call on operators of Alero Flow Station to meet their demands for constant electricity supply and portable drinking water for Ijaw and Itsekiri communities that has led to protest at the flow station for over four days.

The Team Leader of the Ijaw communities, Apostle Dennis Ebiwoni, who is the Chairman of Dinkoru Community, alleged that Ijaw and Itsekiri communities who are host to the flow station have not benefited from their God-blessed mineral resources which is an issue that needs to be addressed quickly.

While addressing journalists on the recent protest going on at Alero Flow Station by communities from the Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic groups, the Team Leader from the Ijaw communities of Egbema Kingdom under the Flow Station, Apostle Dennis Ebiwoni said that the Ijaws are fully in support of the protest.

Apostle Ebiwoni who is the Chairman of Dinkoru Community said that they are tired of the alleged divide and rule tactics by Chevron Nigeria Ltd hence the need for the Ijaw and Itsekiri to speak in one voice in pressing home their demands.

Apostle Ebiwoni who said that the intervention by the immediate past Governor Ifeanyi Okowa through his then commissioner for oil and gas only brought little relief, alleging that they were only provided water and that the alleged total blackout faced by the oil producing communities has not been addressed at as the time of the peaceful protest.

He then appealed to the appropriate authorities to call on the said company to extend the water pipe that is well treated to the communities as well as provide them with constant electricity supply.

Other community leader who spoke including Vice President of Opuama Bloc of Community, Comrade Samson Gospel Keikpo, Secretary of Dinkoru Community, Comrade David Gbalubi, Secretary of Tsekelewu-Polobubo Community Welfare Association, Comrade Egbor Emomotimi Bob Joe and a representative from Opuama Community, Comrade Omasan Okotie all affirmed their communities support for the protest, saying that the protesters will remain in the flow station until their demands are met.

They noted that other demands include employment for indigenes and contracts.
