Onuora Graces Installation Of First Ambassadorial Chiefs In Warri Kingdom

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Non-Indigenes Affairs, Nze Francis Onuora, was among dignitaries who attended the installation ceremony of the first set of Ambassadorial Chiefs in Warri Kingdom, performed by His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri.

The event, which held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Olu’s Palace, also featured the 16th edition of Ghìghó Aghófén, the traditional quarterly change of palace guards, attracting a large and diverse audience.

The chieftaincy conferment, instituted to recognise outstanding contributions to the growth, unity, and development of Warri Kingdom, drew representatives from several ethnic nationalities, including Urhobo, Itsekiri, Hausa, Yoruba, Edo, Idoma, Ilaje, Igbo, and Igala communities.

Five traditional rulers from different states were also in attendance, underscoring the cultural and national significance of the occasion.

Those honoured with chieftaincy titles included Anthony Akoji (Igala), Ezekiel Oyetakin (Ilaje), Oluwasoji Akinwale (Yoruba), Okwudili Ugochukwu (Igbo), Stephen Amalili (Ikwerre), Captain John Okpeyojade, and Rt. Hon. Daniel Riyieneju.

Speaking with journalists at the event, Nze Onuora, a former Ohaneze chieftain for Delta Central and Delta South senatorial districts, expressed gratitude to the Olu of Warri for extending chieftaincy recognition to non-indigenes, particularly members of the Igbo community.

He described the initiative as a bold and inclusive step that would further strengthen unity and peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic groups in Delta State.

According to him, the conferment of titles on non-indigenes reflects the Olu’s commitment to harmony and collective progress, while urging the newly installed chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary conduct and dedicated service to the kingdom.

Also commenting on the ceremony, Chief Ambassador Ndidi Aminu Joel (JP)—the Uvwie-Fome of Uvwie Kingdom, President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Delta Central and Delta South senatorial districts, and Orikere of Agbor Kingdom—described the event as historic.

He expressed delight that two Igbo sons were honoured during his tenure as Ohaneze leader, noting that such recognition would contribute significantly to peace-building and conflict resolution in the state. He advised the honourees to live lives worthy of emulation.

Prominent personalities at the ceremony included the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mu’azu Mohammed, Commandant of the Police College, Maiduguri; Lady Florence N. Ngonadi, President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Delta Central Senatorial District (Women Wing); High Chief Livinus Nwokeji (KSJI), Chairman of NUPENG, Delta State; Hon. Nnaemeka John Ndulue, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation; Assistant Superintendent of Police Aminu Gabriel; and Dr. Austine Uroye, DTHA Constituency I, Warri South Local Government Area, among others.

The ceremony was widely praised as a celebration of cultural inclusion, unity, and shared identity within Warri Kingdom and Delta State at large.
