Ugborikoko Set 2000 Alumni Moves To Impeach President Over ₦914,000 Charity Funds

The Ugborikoko Alumni Association (Set 2000) has recommended the impeachment of its President, Mr. Peterson Ebialade Okpomu, following findings that he diverted ₦914,000 belonging to the association.

According to an Investigation and Disciplinary Committee report dated December 2, 2025, the funds were raised for charity projects and infrastructural support for their former secondary school, aimed at complementing government efforts. The committee found Mr. Okpomu guilty of fraudulent conversion of funds, abuse of office, and breach of trust.

The report stated that Mr. Okpemu unlawfully retained the association’s cheque book and misled the Treasurer, Ms. Oke Dick Kandy, into signing blank cheques under the pretext that they were documents for alumni business. The cheques were later used to withdraw the funds for personal use.

At a virtual hearing held on November 30, 2025, Mr. Okpomu reportedly admitted the allegations, explaining that he used the money for a personal business venture that failed. He also acknowledged that he should not have had custody of the cheque book.

Although he agreed to refund the money, the committee noted that Mr. Okpomu reneged on multiple repayment deadlines, including November 29 and two other earlier agreed dates. The final deadline for restitution has been fixed for December 15, 2025, failing which legal action will be initiated.

Mr. Okpomu, a former Senior Prefect of the Set 2000 cohort, has been recommended for immediate removal from office, a lifetime ban from holding any position in the association, and full restitution.

Members have expressed deep dissatisfaction, describing the incident as a betrayal of trust.
