DELSU Inducts 15th Set Of Qualified Nurses, As VC Charges Inductees To Be Worthy Ambassadors

Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka on Thursday, 29th January, 2026 inducted its 15th set of qualified nurses.

The induction ceremony which took place at the 750 Lecture Theatre A, Site III of the University saw guests from all walks of life including family and friends of the inductees in attendance.

In his speech, DELSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, congratulated the inductees on the successful completion of their nursing training.

Professor Asagba also reminded the inductees that the nursing profession is not just a career, opined that it is a calling that demands discipline, integrity, empathy, and lifelong learning.

He further reminded them that society will entrust human lives to their care as nurses, and that this sacred trust must never be betrayed.

Professor Asagba in conclusion implores the inductees to be worthy ambassadors of the University.

The guest lecturer at the induction ceremony, Professor Roseline Esewe described nursing as a noble profession that demands integrity and decency.

She therefore charged the new nurses to always live above board in carrying out their responsibilities.

The Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, (NMCN) Alhaji Ndagi Alhassan in his speech admonished the new nurses to adhere to the laws and ethics of the profession.

Represented by the Director of Standard and Accreditation, Mrs Afolashade Adekemi Awe, he further implored them that they must live up to the expectations of their calling as nurses. Mrs Awe later administered the oath to the inductees.

The best graduating student and valedictorian, Miss Jane Isioma Onwuegbute who spoke on behalf of the inductees expressed appreciation to the University for imparting them with the needed knowledge and skill to become qualified nurses.

She promised that they would be good ambassadors of both the University and the profession. Other highlights of the induction ceremony were awards presentation by Nigerian Universities Nursing Students Association and Fellowship of Christian Nurses.

Dignitaries present at the induction ceremony included DELSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Edmund Aviedo Atakpo, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Hilary Ijeoma Owamah, Provost of Oleh Campus, Professor Austine Atonuje, the University Registrar, Mrs Rufina Ufiofio, the University Bursar, Mrs Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa represented by Mr Francis Ogbe, the University Librarian, Dr Josephine Eruterio Onohwakpor and the University Public Relations Officer, Mr Henry Eseka. Others were Mrs Afolashade Adekemi Awe who represented the Registrar of NMCN, Professor Roseline Esewe, a Professor of Maternal and Child Health, Dean of Allied Health Science, Professor Matthew Ojezele, Head of Nursing Department, Dr (Mrs) Judith Esievo, Comrade Obaruro Itefue who represented the Acting Director of Nursing Service in Delta State, Comrade Fidelis Uhrorho who represented Delta State Chairman of National Association of Nurses and Midwives (NANM) as well as family and friends of the newly inducted nurses.
