UPU Commends Okpe Monarch Over Building Of Palace Annex In Sapele

Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide, apex socio-cultural organization of Urhobo nation has commended HRM Felix Mujakperuo, Orhue I, Orodje of Okpe Kingdom for his initiative to build the Kingdom’s Palace Annexe in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

said this step taken by The Orodje of Okpe Kingdom shows his bold and visionary leadership style which would further accelerate growth and development of the Kingdom.

UPU said that the construction of the Palace Annex which its ground breaking ceremony would be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026 is a laudable initiative as it shows proactiveness of traditional leadership and statesmanship, a strategic, lawful, and dignified response to the long-standing challenges of territorial encroachment and land-grabbing tendencies by neighboring interests within and around Sapele.

According to the UPU, ” by this decisive action, HRM Orhue 1, Orodje of Okpe Kingdom has firmly reaffirmed the historical presence, ancestral authority, and cultural sovereignty of Okpe Kingdom over its legitimate territories, particularly as it concerns the Okpe indigenous people of Sapele.

“The Palace Annex unmistakably asserts that Okpe land remains Okpe land to be protected, administered, and preserved for both present and future generations.”

The apex socio-cultural organization of Urhobo Nation said that beyond Okpe’s territorial and legal significance, the Palace Annex would serve as a strong symbol of unity, identity, and traditional governance for the Okpe indigenous communities of Sapele and its environs, adding, “the Palace Annex would enhance administrative reach, strengthen cultural cohesion, and promote peaceful co-existence through the affirmation of clearly defined ancestral and heritage boundaries.

The UPU added, “we recognized this step taken by the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom as a model of enlightened and responsible traditional leadership that would address sensitive challenges through institutional foresight rather than reactive conflict as this aligns with the collective aspiration of the Urhobo people to safeguard their land, culture, dignity, and historical legacy.

“We charge all sons and daughters of Okpe Kingdom and Urhobo nation to support this project to enable it achieve its set goals. We also call on well-meaning stakeholders to support and rally behind this historic project and ensure the success of the ground-breaking ceremony and building of the Okpe Kingdom Palace Annex in Sapele.”
