2027: Chief Alu Backs Return of Hon. Solomon Awhinawhi to National Assembly
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief William Alu has called for the return of Chief Solomon Awhinawhi to the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists in an interview, Alu argued that the principle of equity and rotation within the Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency supports Hon. Chief Awhinawhi’s return to the National Assembly, noting that during Chief Awhinawhi’s previous tenure as a two-term lawmaker, the constituency’s representation was zoned to Ughelli North.
According to Chief Alu, after Awhinawhi completed his tenure, the seat rotated to Udu, where another legislator also served two terms, while the position is currently being held by a representative from Ughelli South. Consequent upon this pattern, Chief Alu maintained that it is only fair for Ughelli North to produce the next representative in 2027.

He described Hon. Awhinawhi as a well-known political figure with a proven track record, insisting that he remains the strongest contender from Ughelli North. Alu further stressed that fielding Hon. Solomon Awhinawhi as the APC candidate would strengthen the party’s chances of retaining the seat against opposition parties.
“All indications show that Awhinawhi has been tested, proven, and trusted. He is a household name. He’s the candidate to beat,” Alu said, urging him to declare his intention to contest.
The APC chieftain added that his position aligns with growing calls from stakeholders across the constituency for Hon. Awhinawhi to re-enter the race, warning that failure to present a strong candidate could give opposition parties an advantage in the upcoming general elections.
