Council Boss Suspends Planned Installation Of “Sarki” In Udu, Orders Security Profiling

The Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode (JP, FCIA), has ordered the immediate suspension of a planned inauguration/installation of a “Sarki” a traditional Hausa monarch in parts of Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The directive follows the emergence of banners and posters written in Arabic, announcing the proposed ceremony, which have reportedly sparked concern among residents across the council area.

Speaking on the development, Oyibode disclosed that the matter was raised during a security meeting of the council, where he directed that the individual proposed for the title be properly profiled. He emphasized the need for comprehensive information from leaders of the Hausa people in Udu regarding both the candidate and the organizing committee.

According to the council chairman, he has yet to receive any official briefing or documentation concerning the identity of the proposed Sarki or details of the committee behind the planned installation.

“I was surprised when my attention was drawn to the banners written in Arabic, as well as a series of voice notes and calls from concerned sons and daughters of Udu, both at home and in the diaspora,” he said, expressing strong displeasure over the situation.

Oyibode reiterated that as the Chief Security Officer of Udu Local Government Area, all activities with potential security implications must receive proper authorization. He stressed that no such ceremony should proceed without the approval of the council authority.

He further warned that any attempt to go ahead with the installation without clearance would be met with decisive action, directing security agencies to apprehend organizers and participants who defy the order.

The council boss assured residents that the local government remains committed to maintaining peace, security and harmonious coexistence among all ethnic groups within Udu.
