Delta Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps Patrons Reject State Commandant Appointment, Demand Immediate Reversal

Patrons of the Delta State Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps have strongly rejected what they described as the illegal imposition of a State Commandant and Deputy Commandant, calling on relevant authorities to immediately reverse the appointments.

In a press statement issued after their meeting held on April 17, 2026, at the Human Rights Arena in Otokutu, Delta State, the patrons unanimously condemned the purported appointment contained in a recent letter from the Office of the Director-General, Security Matters, Delta State.

According to the patrons, the appointment process was allegedly marred by misrepresentation, suppression of facts, and undue interference, which they particularly traced to the actions of CSP Rex Enwhliku.

They alleged that the individual presented as State Commandant is neither a member nor has ever been a member of the Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps, making the appointment fundamentally defective and incapable of standing.

The patrons further accused CSP Rex Enwhliku of abusing his office by allegedly handpicking and imposing the said individual without following the established leadership structure of the corps.

They also dismissed the existence of the so-called “Osubi Division,” describing it as fictitious and unknown to the operational framework of the corps.

According to them, Osubi has always been under the Orerokpe Division, and the creation of a separate division was a deliberate attempt to justify what they termed an illegal appointment.

The statement also highlighted what they described as a violation of the corps’ long-standing rotational leadership arrangement among Delta North, Delta Central, and Delta South.

They maintained that leadership had lawfully transitioned to Delta Central on February 23, 2026, during a formal handover witnessed by relevant stakeholders, including CSP Rex Enwhliku.

The patrons further claimed that the Office of the Director-General, Security Matters, may have acted based on incomplete and misleading information without proper consultation with recognized leadership and supervising authorities.

They also expressed concern over what they called unauthorized interference despite an earlier directive placing the corps under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations).

The patrons affirmed that the leadership which emerged in February 2026 remains the only legitimate leadership of the corps, insisting that any parallel structure or appointment is illegal, null, and of no effect.

They demanded the immediate reversal of the purported appointments, restraint of unauthorized interference, investigation into the actions that led to the development, and respect for the established leadership and operational structure of the corps.

They warned that any attempt by the public or security agencies to recognize or collaborate with the purported appointees would amount to aiding illegality and undermining an established security support structure in Delta State.

The group further threatened to petition the Inspector-General of Police, escalate the matter to the Police Service Commission, and initiate legal proceedings if urgent corrective steps are not taken.

They noted that the development poses a serious threat to coordination, discipline, and security operations in Delta State and urged authorities to act decisively in the interest of justice, order, and public safety.
