Malami Obtains ADC Governorship Form, Declares ‘State Of Emergency On Misgovernance’ In Kebbi

A former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has officially obtained the governorship nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 Kebbi State election, vowing to confront what he described as a deepening governance and humanitarian crisis in the state.

In a strongly worded declaration, Malami said his decision to enter the race was driven by the worsening conditions in Kebbi, stressing that he could no longer remain silent as insecurity, poverty, and systemic collapse continue to affect residents.

He painted a grim picture of the state’s education sector, revealing that over 67 percent of children between the ages of 6 and 15 are out of school, with attendance rates among the lowest nationwide.

He further noted that more than 88 percent of children in Kebbi suffer from multidimensional poverty, while hundreds of malnourished children reportedly died within nine months in 2025.

The ADC aspirant also raised concerns over the healthcare system, describing it as severely underperforming.

According to him, maternal mortality rates remain alarmingly high, malaria continues to claim the lives of children under five, and many pregnant women in rural communities lack access to proper antenatal care.

On security, Malami said the situation has deteriorated significantly, with communities facing persistent attacks from bandits. He added that kidnappings for ransom, displacement of farmers, and economic disruption have become widespread, forcing many businesses to shut down due to fear and uncertainty.

“At a time when our people are struggling to survive, priorities have been tragically misplaced,” he said, accusing the current leadership of neglecting critical sectors.

Declaring what he termed a “State of Emergency on Misgovernance,” Malami outlined his agenda to restore security, rebuild the education system, improve healthcare delivery, and revive agriculture across the state.

“My mission is clear—to create opportunities for young people, ensure accountability, and return dignity to governance,” he stated.

He emphasized that his ambition is rooted in service rather than personal gain, calling for an end to what he described as ineffective leadership and empty political rhetoric.

Malami concluded with a rallying call to Kebbi residents, urging collective action to rebuild the state into a safer and more prosperous society.

“There will be no retreat and no surrender in the struggle to rescue Kebbi,” he declared.
