APC Chieftain, Obiuwevbi, Resigns Over Party Crisis In Delta

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Dr. Sir Ominimini Christopher Emaye Obiuwevbi, has resigned his membership of the party, citing unresolved internal crises and alleged marginalization.

In a resignation letter dated May 8, 2026, and addressed to APC ward chairmen in Agbarha Ward, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Obiuwevbi expressed dissatisfaction over the party’s inability to resolve disputes arising from ward and local government congresses, which he said produced factional executives across Delta State.

He lamented that despite months of disagreements, the party’s National Working Committee had failed to reconcile aggrieved members and restore unity.

According to him, the situation was worsened by the defection of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who he alleged had taken control of party structures at the ward level.

Obiuwevbi further accused the new entrants of sidelining long-standing members who worked for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates during the 2023 general elections. He described as unjust what he termed his suspension by a factional ward leadership after he raised concerns about alleged anti-party activities.

Highlighting his contributions to the party, Obiuwevbi said he served as the Delta Central APC Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Coordinator in 2023, where he oversaw the inauguration of campaign structures across the eight local government areas of the senatorial district.

He also noted his role in grassroots mobilization, membership drive initiatives, and hosting party activities at his residence in Ughelli and country home in Agbarha-Otor.

The former APC stalwart added that he was appointed as a collation agent for multiple elections, including the presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly polls, and later served as a key witness at election petition tribunals, contributing to the victories of party candidates.

He also raised concerns over the lack of clarity regarding authentic party leadership at the ward and local government levels, especially as party primaries approach. Obiuwevbi questioned whether a free and fair primary process would be guaranteed, alleging that consensus candidate lists had already been published.

Citing what he described as “divine advice” and the need to protect the political future of his supporters, Obiuwevbi announced his immediate resignation from the APC.

He stated that his decision was driven by the responsibility he bears toward his numerous political associates and followers, whose fortunes he said are tied to his political journey.
