NDC Primaries: Omo-Agege, Obakpororo Secure Landslide Victory

Former Deputy Senate President in the 9th Assembly, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, and the Urhobo Coordinator of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), Mr Johnny Obakpororo, massively secured the votes of their constituents in the just-concluded NDC primaries held in all the wards of Delta Central and Ughelli/Udu federal constituency.

Sen. Omo-Agege, who is seeking re-election to the National Assembly on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed joy at the overwhelming support given to him, adding that the people’s will has spoken.

“They believe in me, they know what I am capable of doing hence they came out en masse to queue behind me to return me to the senate house to bring more development to the people of Delta Central and Delta State as a whole.”

While addressing the mammoth crowd that came out in solidarity to cast their votes for him, he appealed to them to reciprocate their enthusiasm in the general elections, assuring that his going back to the senate will consolidate his dreams of developing the Delta Central.

While thanking the leadership of NDC and the officials of the party from the party’s national headquarters for the peaceful conduct of the primary election, he said, NDC will take over Delta State come the 2027 general elections.

Also speaking to newsmen, the
NDC aspirant for Ughelli North, Ughelli, Ughelli South and Udu federal constituency, Mr Obakpororo Johnny ascribed the massive turnout and overwhelming support he garnered to the confidence the people of the U3 constituency reposed in him.

According to him, the people believed in him and the party he represented, I grew up in their midst, they knew that I knew their pains and that I could solve them for them.

The overwhelming votes recorded in the primaries have never been experienced in the annals of Delta Central and the entire Delta State as a whole.

“I am going to the House of Representatives to change the narrative of Ughelli/Urdu federal constituency, I am going there to bring changes and developments that will affect our people positively.

“I am not going there to work against the will of the people I am representing, I am going there to ameliorate the suffering of the people of Ughelli /Urdu federal constituency.

“What you see today can be best described as “Obas Movement” for the emancipation of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and UDU federal constituency”.

While urging his teaming supporters to come out en masse to cast their votes for him and other NDC candidates in the forthcoming general elections, he said, the chance of NDC winning the general elections come 2027 is high.

In a statement on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said official announcements would be made from the national headquarters after collation is completed.

According to the statement, the NDC concluded its presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly primaries across the country between Thursday, May 28 and Friday, May 29, 2026. The party said the exercise recorded massive participation by members and supporters.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, alongside security agencies including the Police and DSS, monitored the exercise in several locations to ensure compliance with electoral guidelines and maintain public order.

“Reports from across the federation indicated that voting and affirmation processes were orderly, transparent and well coordinated,” the NDC said. Stakeholders commended the maturity displayed by aspirants and supporters throughout the exercise.

The party noted that its decision to allow aspirants to participate in the primaries before purchasing nomination forms was praised by observers as a first in Nigeria’s political space. Nomination forms will only be sold to successful candidates who emerged from the primaries.

“Supporters noted that the approach introduced by the NDC was aimed at deepening internal democracy and creating a more inclusive platform for participation,” the statement added.

The National Working Committee is expected to conclude the collation of results from the states before making official announcements from the national headquarters.
