Jaro Egbo Rolls Out Two-Year Scorecard, Reaffirms Commitment To Ughelli North Development
The Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun (Barr.) Jaro Movudu Egbo, KSC, has unveiled his administration’s two-year scorecard, highlighting major achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, security, education, environmental sanitation and staff welfare while reaffirming his commitment to accelerating development across the council area.
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday to commemorate his second anniversary in office, Egbo said his administration has remained steadfast in delivering the dividends of democracy despite the challenges confronting local governments across the country.
He expressed gratitude to the people of Ughelli North for the confidence reposed in his administration and acknowledged the support of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, noting that the governor’s MORE Agenda has continued to provide the roadmap for inclusive development in the state.
Infrastructure Projects
The chairman said the administration has made significant investments in critical infrastructure, with the Ultra-Modern Ughelli North Local Government Secretariat Complex nearing completion. He noted that the facility would provide a modern and conducive working environment for staff while enhancing service delivery.
He also disclosed that construction of a new Secretariat Gate Complex is progressing steadily to improve security and beautify the council headquarters.
Egbo further announced the successful rehabilitation and furnishing of the Legislative Assembly Complex with modern office facilities and an independent power supply. Other projects include the construction of multi-storey market stalls to stimulate commercial activities and the completion of a dual-court complex to strengthen access to justice.
He added that rehabilitation work has commenced on the long-neglected Post Office Road in front of Ughelli High Court II, with reinforced concrete pavement, asphalt overlay and drainage infrastructure designed to permanently tackle flooding and improve accessibility.
Healthcare
In the health sector, the chairman revealed that the Ughelli North Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital has been completed, equipped with modern medical facilities and is now fully operational. Construction of residential quarters for doctors and nurses, he added, is progressing steadily.
According to him, the facility represents a major investment aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services for residents of the local government.
Power and Renewable Energy
Egbo stated that his administration procured and installed three 11/33 KVA transformers in strategic communities to improve electricity supply. Electricity has also been restored to the council secretariat through the installation of modern electrical infrastructure.
He added that a hybrid renewable energy system, comprising daytime solar panels and high-capacity solar streetlights, has been deployed to ensure uninterrupted power supply while reducing dependence on the national grid.
Security
The chairman said security remains a top priority of his administration, stressing that collaboration with security agencies has restored peace to previously volatile areas, particularly around the Ogor, Evwreni and Ohoror axis of the East-West Highway.
According to him, security operations have significantly reduced cases of kidnapping and armed robbery along the Evwreni-Uwheru and Uvwiamuge-Agbarho corridors.
To further strengthen security, the council donated a fully equipped patrol vehicle to the Police Mobile Force and constructed a modern police post to improve rapid response.
Egbo also disclosed that his administration renovated an acquired building at the DDPA Housing Estate, furnished it and handed it over to Operation Delta Sweep. The facility also accommodates personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Education and Environment
On education, the chairman said more than 300 school desks, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books and writing materials have been distributed to pupils in public primary schools through the council’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
He added that the administration has continued to partner with the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on teacher capacity development, classroom rehabilitation and improved educational infrastructure.
Egbo also highlighted extensive desilting and clearing of drainage channels, particularly along the East-West Road corridor in Agbarho, to reduce flooding and improve environmental sanitation. He noted that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise has also been successfully revived.
Staff Welfare
The chairman said his administration has prioritised staff welfare by clearing outstanding financial obligations owed to members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and implementing approved welfare programmes.
He also announced the renovation of strategic offices within the council secretariat and the procurement of official vehicles for key office holders, including the Vice Chairman, Leader of the Legislative Assembly, Secretary to the Local Government, Head of Personnel Management, Chief Security Officer and an 18-seater bus for the council’s Press Unit.
Looking Ahead
As his administration enters the second half of its tenure, Egbo pledged to consolidate on the achievements recorded over the past two years through increased investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, environmental protection and economic development.
He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and prudent management of public resources while expressing appreciation to Governor Oborevwori, traditional rulers, political leaders, security agencies, civil servants, community leaders, the media and the people of Ughelli North for their continued support.
