CP Samuel Etaifo Erale Assumes Duty As 25th Delta Commissioner Of Police

The Delta State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, psc, mnips, as the 25th Commissioner of Police in the state.

SP Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Erale succeeds CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, who previously headed the command.

Born on March 2, 1968, at Pedro Police Barracks, Shomolu, Mainland, Lagos State, the new Commissioner hails from Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, which he obtained in 1992.

CP Erale joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a member of Course 18 Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police and began his policing career in Kogi State Command.

His career has taken him through several operational, administrative, investigative and command positions across different formations and commands, including Kogi, Ekiti, Osun, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers State Commands, as well as Zone 7 Headquarters and Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He also served as part of the Nigeria Police Force contingent to the United Nations Mission in Kosovo in 2000, gaining international exposure in peace-support and policing operations.

Among his notable appointments were Personal Assistant to the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command; Personal Assistant to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7, Abuja; Police Mobile Force Provost; Squadron Commander, MOPOL 33, Ekiti State; Squadron Commander, MOPOL 26, Akwa Ibom State; and various administrative and operational positions at Force Headquarters and the Force Criminal Investigation Department.

He also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, in Bayelsa and Ekiti State Commands, and later as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, Rivers State Command, from 2022 to 2026.

Before his elevation to the rank of Commissioner of Police, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Community Safety and Crime Prevention, at Force Headquarters, Abuja.

CP Erale spent 14 years of his police career in the Police Mobile Force, serving as Squadron Commander for nine years, a period that strengthened his experience in tactical operations and command.

He was also deployed as Commissioner of Police, Elections, during the recently concluded off-cycle elections in Osun State, an assignment the police described as contributing to one of the most peaceful and successful elections in recent times.

While undertaking the national assignment in Osun State, he was posted in August 2026 to take over as the 25th Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command.

The new Delta police boss is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Institute of Police Studies.

He has attended several professional and tactical courses, including the Advanced Detective Course in 1999; Small Arms and Explosives Course at the International Law Enforcement Academy, Gaborone, Botswana, in 2005; Tactical Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos, in 2014; Peace Support Course at the National Defence College in 2015; and Strategic and Senior Command Course in 2021.

The Command described CP Erale as a tested and trusted operational commander whose career has been defined by professionalism, discipline, commitment to duty, operational leadership, personnel management and the maintenance of public safety and security.

His experience spans police operations, administration, criminal investigation, personnel management, community safety and international policing.

CP Erale is married with children. He enjoys playing badminton and brisk walking in his leisure time.
