DESOPADEC Agbor Zonal Office Nears Completion, Igbenije Targets Stronger Youth, Stakeholder Engagement

The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission is set to expand its reach in Ika land with the ongoing construction of its Zonal Office in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
Hon. Cosmas Igbenije, Member representing Ika ethnic nationality on the Governing Board of DESOPADEC on Wednesday 19th August, 2026 paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the project site to evaluate progress and chart the way forward for the Commission’s activities in the area.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Igbenije who expressed satisfaction with the level of work done so far, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the facility, noting that this was his second visit to the site in his determination to ascertain the state of the facility.
“Time is of essence. Once completed, this office will serve as the operational hub for DESOPADEC in Ika Nation,” he said.
The Board Member further disclosed plans to commence meaningful engagement with Ika youths and strategic stakeholders across the two Ika Local Government Areas.
According to him, the engagements are aimed at ensuring that communities benefit maximally from DESOPADEC interventions in line with the M.O.R.E Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Taking the Board Member round the project site, the supervising Engineer, Engr. Jude Adinkwu assured of speedy completion of the Zonal Office, stating that the facility, when delivered, will enhance the capacity of the Board Member and the Commission to coordinate DESOPADEC activities effectively for Ika land.
Hon. Igbenije commended Governor Oborevwori for his infrastructural commitment to riverine and oil-producing communities across Delta State, saying the Agbor Zonal Office would serve as a center for development projects, youth empowerment initiatives, and sustained community engagement for the Ika people.
On the sidelines of the inspection, Hon. Igbenije also held a brief session with the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Ika South Branch, led by Chairman, Comr. Gerald Mahiagu where he assured the Union of his readiness to engage all stakeholders within his mandate area to foster inclusion and development.

With work progressing at the Agbor site, stakeholders in Ika nation expect the new Zonal Office to bring DESOPADEC projects and programs closer to the people and strengthen the Commission’s impact at the grassroots.
