FUPRE VC Celebrates Chief James Ibori At 68, Commends Vision, Leadership, Enduring Influence

Effurun, Delta State — Monday, 3 August 2026: The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Professor Ezekiel O. Agbalagba, FNIP, FCAI, has felicitated Chief James Onanefe Ibori, former Governor of Delta State, on the occasion of his 68th birthday, celebrating his years of public service, leadership and enduring influence.

In a goodwill message issued on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Senate, Staff and Students of FUPRE, the Vice-Chancellor described the milestone as an occasion to celebrate “a life distinguished by vision, leadership, public service and enduring influence.”
At 68,

Professor Agbalagba noted, “we celebrate not merely the passage of years, but the experience gained, relationships built, lives influenced and contributions made along a remarkable journey.”

He added that Chief Ibori’s years in public life had been characterized by “vision, courage, resilience and a sustained commitment to the advancement of people and society.”

Reflecting on the former Governor’s continuing influence, the Vice-Chancellor observed that “beyond public office, the enduring value of your journey is reflected in the people you have inspired, the leaders you have mentored and the opportunities you have created,” adding that these dimensions of leadership extend its significance beyond formal positions.

Professor Agbalagba also highlighted Chief Ibori’s relationship with FUPRE, expressing the University’s appreciation for “your enduring goodwill and influence in advancing the cause of the University.”

He noted that Chief Ibori’s support for education as “a catalyst for human empowerment and sustainable development” resonates strongly with FUPRE’s mandate to advance “knowledge, innovation and human capital for Nigeria’s energy future.”

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the shared commitment to education and human-capital development underscores the importance of strengthening institutions, expanding opportunities and equipping people with the knowledge and capabilities required to contribute meaningfully to national development.

As Chief Ibori celebrates his 68th birthday, Professor Agbalagba joined the entire FUPRE community in wishing him “renewed strength, wisdom, sound health and many more years of fulfilment and impactful service,” while praying that Almighty God would continue to guide, preserve and bless him with many more fruitful years.
