Ibori at 68: DESPO Hails Founding Father

The Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara (DESPO), Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, has congratulated former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, on the occasion of his 68th birthday, describing him as a visionary leader, champion of resource control, and political statesman whose legacy continues to shape the state’s educational landscape.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the Governing Council, management, staff, and students of the institution, the Rector celebrated Ibori as the founding father of the Polytechnic, acknowledging his pivotal role in expanding access to tertiary education in Delta State during his tenure as governor from 1999 to 2007.

Professor Ufuophu-Biri noted that under Ibori’s leadership, three polytechnics were established in the state, with Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, emerging as one of the landmark achievements of his administration.

According to him, the institution, which commenced academic activities with only three departments, has grown remarkably to offer 53 academic programmes, while recording significant progress in infrastructure development, human capital advancement, and academic excellence.

He said the Polytechnic has continued to produce graduates who are making meaningful contributions both within Nigeria and internationally, attributing the institution’s success to the foresight and commitment of its founding father.

Describing Ibori as the pioneer Visitor to the Polytechnic, the Odidigborigbo of Africa, and the Eni of Oghara Kingdom, the Rector expressed profound appreciation for his enduring investment in education and youth development.

“As you complete another circle of life today, we pray that God will continue to encircle you with divine protection, grant you good health, wisdom, and many more years of impactful service to humanity,” the statement read.

Professor Ufuophu-Biri wished the former governor a joyful celebration and many more fulfilling years ahead.
