DELSU Holds 122nd Inaugural Lecture, As VC Commends Prof. Egbai For Exposing Earth’s Hidden Treasures

Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, has commended Professor James Chuks Egbai, for revealing the hidden treasures of planet earth.

The Inaugural Lecturer, Professor James Chuks Egbai, delivering DELSU’s 122nd inaugural lecture.

Professor Asagba made this acclamation at the 122nd in the series of inaugural lectures of the University which held recently at the 750 Lecture Theatre A, Site III of DELSU.

Professor Asagba noted that the lecture of Professor Egbai has exposed the concealed resources in the earth which can stimulate growth in the nation.

He further stated that the earth was filled with enormous natural resources that are capable of developing Nigeria.

Professor Asagba in conclusion argued that the tenacity of the inaugural lecturer has helped him to engage in the research that uncovered earth’s vast hidden resources.

Delivering his lecture earlier on the topic: “Discovering the Mysterious Earth Through Geophysical Exploration: A Catalyst For National Development”, Professor James Chuks Egbai argued that planet earth was mysterious because of the invisible forces that govern its behaviours, seismic waves, magnetic fields, gravitational anomalies, and electrical conductivities.

The Professor of Geophysics further posited that of the seismic waves of the earth, two are of particular interest to geophysics which are the Primary wave (P-Waves) and the Secondary waves (S-Waves).

He further argued that the study of P-Waves and S-Waves has provided vital information of earth’s hidden areas exposing structure, density and elastic properties. This study by geophysicists has further led to unearthing earth’s natural resources that are catalyst for national development. Professor Egbai warned that Nigeria’s reliance on only oil and gas is costing the nation financial fortunes which can be generated from mining other natural resources.

He therefore recommended among others that there should be collaborative efforts between the Nigeria’s mining industry, government agencies and academia to profitably tap into the nation’s vast mineral resources located in the earth.

Additional highpoints of the 122nd inaugural lecture were the decoration of the inaugural lecturer, Professor James Chuks Egbai with the prestigious medal of inaugural lecturers of the University by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, special musical rendition by the Department of Music, photo session of the inaugural lecturer with Principal Officers of the university as well as with family members and friends.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony included Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Prof Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Edmund Aviedo Atakpo, Provost of Oleh Campus, Professor Augustine Omoghaghare Atonuje, Registrar of the University, Mrs Rufina Ufiofio, represented by Mr Emmanuel Okoro, the University Bursar, Mrs Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa, represented by Dr Frank Itiveh, the University Librarian, Dr Josephine Eruterio Onohwakpor. Also in attendance were former Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Victor Peretomode, former DELSU Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Ochuko Anomohanran, immediate past Provost of Oleh campus, Professor Elo Ibagere, immediate past DELSU Librarian, Professor Stephen Uwaifo, Provosts, Deans, Directors, Professors, members of DELSU College of Chaplains, students, friends as well as family members of the inaugural lecturer.
