DELSU Honours Former VC, Prof. Peretomode

The Management of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, on Monday, September 14, 2026, honoured the sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Victor Peretomode, with a special send-forth ceremony held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

Professor Peretomode served as Vice-Chancellor of the University from 2014 to 2019.

The ceremony was organised as a follow-up to the send-forth programme held at the end of his tenure, which the former Vice-Chancellor was unable to attend.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel O. Asagba, eulogised Professor Peretomode and highlighted the significant impact of his tenure on the growth and development of the University.

Professor Asagba particularly cited the introduction of plagiarism checks for both staff and students as one of the notable achievements of the former Vice-Chancellor, noting that the initiative strengthened the quality and integrity of academic research in the University.

He also commended Professor Peretomode for establishing a culture of encouraging academic staff to publish in high-ranking and internationally recognised journals, including Scopus- and Thomson Reuters-indexed journals.

The Vice-Chancellor further noted that Professor Peretomode raised the standards for the promotion of academic staff, thereby encouraging higher levels of scholarly productivity.

According to Professor Asagba, the former Vice-Chancellor also promoted and established policies and standards that fostered discipline as a virtue among staff and students.

He added that the initiatives introduced during Professor Peretomode’s tenure contributed to enhancing the rating, visibility and reputation of the University.

Other Principal Officers of the University joined in acknowledging and extolling Professor Peretomode’s contributions to the growth and development of DELSU.

Responding, Professor Peretomode expressed appreciation to the University Management for the gesture and pledged his continued support to the institution.

He also stressed the importance of sustaining the culture of staff rotation, noting that staff should not remain in particular positions indefinitely. He emphasised the need for purposeful and intentional decision-making, as well as fairness in the formulation and administration of policies.

According to him, such practices would enhance discipline, confidence and effectiveness across the University.

The occasion provided an opportunity for the University to celebrate and honour a former Vice-Chancellor whose tenure contributed to the advancement of academic excellence, discipline and sound university administration.
