Ethiope East MPs Move To Immortalise Ex-leader, John Palmer

Ethiope East Local Government Council which lost an experienced and former leader of the legislative arm, Hon. (Chief) John Palmer, representing Ward 5 (Ovu), to the cold hands of death, recently made move for him to be buried in the Council premises in recognition of his priceless contributions to the Council.

The legislative chambers in a motion moved by Honourable Collins Eboh, representing Ward 16 Eku, as a matter of urgent public importance, requested the hallowed chambers to approve that the remains of the deceased, whose footprints were indelible in the sand of times, as ex-leader from 2008 to 2011 and later died in service, be buried in the council premises.

Hon. (Chief) Eboh further noted that burying the former leader in the council premises will afford both the past administration under Hon. (Chief) Tony Oboroh, which the late councilor served as a leader and the incumbent administration under Hon.(Chief) Faith Majemite, in which he died as a serving councilor, the opportunity to set the precedence of rewarding good work and selfless services rendered to the council and the society at large.

In a motion moved by Hon. Awana representing Ward 15, also from Eku, he said, the late honourable deserved more, even at death.

He however said that the motion moved by Honourable Eboh would have been unanimously adopted, if not for the Urhobo tradition and the family of the deceased that  have concluded arrangements to bury the deceased in his country home, Oviorie.

The leader of the House, Hon. Ben Akpofure, representing Ward 4 Okpara Inland, said the house through Honourable Eboh and Awana has spoken well in its bid to honour one of its own even at death, but however appealed to the house to allow the family of the late Honourable to bury the remains of the fallen hero in his residence as tradition demands.

Hon. Akpofure, in an emotional-ladened voice appealed to the family of the deceased to provide the photograph of late Hon. Palmer to the legislative chambers for onward placement in the chambers of the Council.
