A one-day youth summit geared towards reorienting the minds of youths toward developmental politics, will on the 23rd of March, 2020, hold in the university town of Abraka.
The programme tagged: ‘Electioneering is Over; Let’s Govern,’ focused on the youths of Ethiope East Local Government Area as a case study, will hold at Rivotel Hotel and Golf Resort, Abraka on the said day.
According to the convener, Hon. Anthony Ajaino, Special Assistant (SA) to the Delta State Governor on Youth Development, the programme became necessary considering the avalanche of acrimony that come from political parties and their followers.
He added: “Elections into various offices in Nigeria come up once every four years. It however comes with its attendant violence, hatred, quarrels, maiming, litigation, mudslinging and all sorts of acrimony. These sometimes span up till another election year thereby entrenching division, promoting mediocrity and scaring away useful developments. The case of Ethiope East is even worse.”
Ajaino said: “This summit would help our youths to know the importance and roles of opposition parties in governance and society building. It would inculcate the spirit of political tolerance and ultimately advocate politics of inclusiveness for development and promote peace and harmony in the society.”
He continued: “Upon completion of this summit, the ground would have been prepared for successive programmes lined up for the actualization of His Excellency’s ‘Stronger Delta Agenda’.”
Special guests expected to grace the occasion include the Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, Member representing Ethiope East Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly and Minority Leader, Chief (Hon.) Innocent Anidi, Senior Political Adviser to the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Solomon Funkekeme, Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. (Comr.)
