DELSU: How My Administration Will Tackle Plagiarism In Faculty Of Science —Prof. Arthur EKpekpo
***Says He Is Not Out To Witch-hunt Anyone
The newly elected Dean, Faculty of Science, Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Arthur Ekpekpo, has said that lecturers in the faculty will no more be faced with the embarrassment of presenting plagiarized works, saying that the faculty, just like others in the university, has provided a software to screen their academic works.
Prof. Arthur said this during an exclusive interview with Oasis Magazine (OM) in his office in Abraka.
According to the Dean, plagiarism is a serious offence that attracts a sack in several universities such as UNIBEN, UNIPORT and UNILAG, adding that in DELSU anyone guilty of this act gets punished by not getting promoted for three years.
His words: “Staff in my faculty will now have their works checked and the ones that will not pass the test of plagiarism will be removed before they go for appraisal.”
Also, he disclosed that plans are underway to start indexing the academic journals of lecturers in the faculty to make them have a wide publicity, saying that academic works by lecturers in the faculty will now be placed on the internet.
Continuing, he said that during his tenure, workshops will be organised to train the younger ones, adding that his running for the position was not to witch-hunt anyone.
Furthermore, he said that his administration would be transparent, operate an open-door policy and carry everyone along by making vital information available to them.
On the issue of accreditation, he called on the Heads of Department to access the accreditation fee paid by students and start equipping their departments, and not wait for accreditation time to do a fire-brigade approach, stressing that this is the direction that the Peretemode-led administration is going.
