Drug Abuse: DTHA Calls On Gov Okowa To Direct Ministry Of Health To Address Menace
The Delta State House of Assembly has called on the State Governor, Senator (Dr) Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa to direct the Ministry of Health to put anti drug abuse sensitization initiatives, strategies and programmes to enable them collaborate with International organizations and other relevant stakeholders to checkmate the rising menace of abuse of narcotic drugs and other psychotropic substances in the state.
The call followed a Motion on notice moved on Tuesday at plenary by the Member representing Ika North East, Hon Anthony Emeka Elekeokwuri.
The motion was seconded by the Deputy majority Leader, Hon Oboro Preyor and was adopted.
In their contributions, lawmakers who spoke in support of the Motion at plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed worry over drugs abuse, particularly among the youths and called for urgent steps in addressing the ugly trend.
Meanwhile, the House has referred the State Registration of Motor Mechanics and Spare Parts Dealers Workshops and Licensing of Mechanics Bill, 2017 back to Transport Committee for a proper work.
