DTSG Inaugurates Committee To Checkmate Disease Outbreaks
Delta State Government has set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee on Information for Disease Prevention, Outbreak and control to prevent and checkmate disease outbreaks in the state.
Inaugurating the Committee in Asaba, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Ononye, stressed the need for collaboration between the committee and the grassroots.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Patrick Ukah, stated that the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Disease Prevention, Outbreak and Control was a synergy between various ministries on disease outbreak in the state.
According to Mr Ukah, the essence of the committee was to, “reach the larger number of Deltans from the top level to the grassroots and to know what is happening at the lower level of the populace, to know when there is disease breakout and to know how well we have been able to go through the line to see that we have touched every aspect.”
Continuing, Mr Ukah said, “It is through you we would be able to know if there is any outbreak. It is through you we will be able to know at the top level of government how well all the measure put in place is being implanted.
“We don’t want to hear rumour. It is only with information that the Ministry of Health and the Government would be able to intervene immediately if there is any disease outbreak.”
He told the committee to be diligent and work hard, because without them there would be a gap in government intervention programme, saying “with your wealth of knowledge, you will be able to advice government properly on what to do when there is any disease outbreak in the state. Giving the right information as it is so as to apply the right intervention measure.”
The Information commissioner charged the committee to meet regularly and periodically to update and also carry out campaign on informing the people on how to prevent some of the diseases.
Members of the committee were drawn from the Ministries of Information, Health, Higher Education, Basic and Secondary Education, Environment, and Directorate of Local Government, as well as Chieftaincy Affairs in the Office of the Deputy Governor.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the inauguration of the committee by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Ononye.
