COVID-19 Lockdown: Former Councilor Presents Food Items To UPU Youth Wing For Distribution

-As Youth Body Continues Exercise Tomorrow

 A former councilor of Ward 11, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta, Hon. Lucky Eta, has supported the laudable food distribution project of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Youthwing, with the donation of food items to the body.

It will be recalled that UPU Youthwing, the umbrella body for Urhobo youths worldwide, under the dynamic leadership of Comrade Efemena Umukoro, as part of giving out palliatives to cushion the effect of the lockdown ordered by the state government to curb the spread of the Coronavirus disease, donated food items to women in DSC, Ovwian, Ujevwe, Egini and Ukpiovwin communities of Udu Local Government Area in the state recently.

During one of the presentations, Umukoro called on well-meaning sons and daughters of Urhobo to contribute their own quota towards helping people in Urhobo Nation during this trying period by supporting his gesture to enable him reach more persons.

Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) during a phone conversation, Eta said that he was compelled to make the donation having seen the determination that Umukoro has shown to reach Urhobo indigenes persons with food items and cash donations.

He said: “In my own little way I wanted to show him that I appreciate what he has been doing by using his own finances. I have also promised to do more presentation by next week.”

He called on other well-to-do indigenes to support the project to make sure the masses are okay, as he urged the youth president to continue the good works for Urhobo people and prayed that God provides more funds for him (Umukoro) to do more.

Items donated by the former councilor include 5 bags of garri and three bags of yam.
Speaking to OM after receiving the donations, the youth leader said: “I am excited and happy that spirited Urhobo youths are showing concern in this project. I started this project as an individual with no financial support from anyone.

“I understand that the hunger virus kills faster than the Coronavirus so we cannot be protecting our people from the virus and allow them killed of hunger and that is why I decided to use my little resources to make my own contribution to the well-being of my people.

He continued: “Tomorrow, we are going to Ewu and Effurun-otor communities to carry on this project.

“Each of the bags of garri has 20 baskets meaning he has given 100 families a basket of garri each. It is a noble donation. I urge others to provide at least a bag of garri that costs N15, 000. If they do, they would have provided a basket of garri to 20 families each. We will not allow hunger kill our people.”

He thanked the donor on behalf of youths in the 24 kingdoms of Urhobo Nation and those in the Diaspora.

Furthermore, he thanked the Deputy Senate President (DSP), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for his good works and his cash donation to the poor in Delta Central Senatorial District recently.

Continuing, he promised to mobilize Urhobo youths to continue to partner with the Federal Government to achieve the ‘Next Level’ agenda.
