By Victor Umukoro Kobodokuni
A Warri based renowned retiree, Mr. Ojei Johnbull, who has served the Delta State Government meritoriously, by contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of the Delta State Urban Water Corporation, Warri Office, for the past four years in retirement, has commended the good effort of His Excellency, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Auther Okowa, for providing a robust palliative across the entire people of Delta State, to alleviate poverty among the Deltans, at this period of COVID-19 lockdown while at home, just as he appealed to the governor to take a little step further to still provide little relieve package for the entire civil servants retirees who have not received their gratuities and pensions and have no other engagement in Delta State.
Mr. Johnbull gave this commendation and appeal while addressing journalists in Warri, Delta State, during the foodstuffs sharing exercise, held at Nana Model College Play Ground, Warri South Local government Area of Delta State recently.
He explained that for over three and four years now, some of the retirees who have just retired from different ministries and have not been paid any thing and also have no job doing are now living in pains, abject poverty and frustration at home.
He added that apart from some of the retirees who are still living idle in pains at home; some others are gradually dying on daily basis out of frustration and hunger.
Still speaking on the plight of retirees in Delta State, he further suggested and appealed to Governor Okowa, that apart from giving the retirees some lockdown relief packages, the governor and his executive council may also choose to look into the plight of these set of retirees, to carry them along by giving them little amount of money as loans that they can use to do little business, so that later the government now deduct the said loan money from their individual gratuities, when the government starts paying them.
The retired civil servant from Delta state Urban Water Corporation,Warri, while lamenting, sincerely appealed to the governor to choose any of the suggestions and touch the lives of the retirees at home now, so that they will not meet their deaths.
