Delta CJ Inaugurates Magistrate Court For Osubi District

-Says Establishment In Line With SDG 16

In its determined effort to broaden the frontiers of justice to enable rural dwellers in the State have an unfettered access to justice, the State Government under the aegis of Delta State Judiciary has established a magistrate court at Osubi Community in Okpe Local Government Area.

According to the State Chief Judge, Honourable Marshal Umukoro who inaugurated the Court yesterday, the Osubi Magisterial District comprised Osubi, Okuokoko, Okuikpehre, Ugolo and Okoroghwe Communities.

He stated that the creation of more magistrates courts in the rural communities in the state was in line with Goal 16 of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which, commits UN member states to among others, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.

“When poor communities cannot seek justice for their grievances, the resulting anger can spill over into violence. In an atmosphere of chaos and violence, there can be no sustainable development. The result will be extreme poverty. If serious progress is ever going to be achieved in overcoming extreme poverty, the poor must enjoy the rule of law and functioning institutions of justice, ” he stated.

Justice Umukoro warned pioneer staff of the Court to eschew corrupt tendencies and maintain best ethical standards in their service to the public.

The chief judge who commended Governor Okowa for providing the enabling environment for the Judiciary to thrive in the state and Rt. Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori for facilitating the establishment of the Court, called for collaboration between the Bar and the Bench in ensuring smooth administration of justice and easy access to justice for all in the country.

Responding, the Chairman of Osubi Community, Paul Erugbenan; appreciated the chief judge and the Speaker Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori for their immense contribution in bringing a magistrate court to the community, promising to protect the staff and the structure from any harm.

Present at the ceremony were the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Secretary to Okpe Local Government, Leader Eju representing the Chairman and the representative of the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Chief Daniel Ivwreghren.
