How My Pastor Triggered the Gift Of Composing Songs In Me— Pastor Joy Roy-Omoni
By Daniel Dafe
Pastor Joy Roy-Omoni has released her first album, as she revealed that her pastor, Rev. Onoriode Oghenerhoro helped her develop the ability to write songs.
Joy, who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) after the launch of her album recently, added that she started singing as a child, saying that she joined the choir at the age of nine.
According to her, she was fortunate to get married to a lover of music, Mr. Alex Roy-Omoni, who she said is also an instrumentalist and plays the drum till date.
She continued: “I grew to become the music director of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Abraka. I never knew I had the ability to compose songs until my pastor walked into rehearsals one day and made a comment that triggered that gift. We were singing a song by one gospel artist and all my pastor could say was “na only people song una de sing?” “Can’t you compose your own songs?”
“To be sincere, I felt really bad because he had been very supportive. So, I found it hard to reconcile that statement. But looking back today, I am thankful to God and grateful to him because those words got me thinking and I had to pray for the enablement to compose songs. Today, I can boast of an album that has six songs written and composed by me to God’s glory.”

She said that the album titled: “Coming Soon” was produced to remind everyone that Christ will soon come with His reward.
She added: “It is to encourage us not to give up our faith in Christ. It is to tell us that giving to the needy has blessings attached to it. There is also a track for all prayerful and excellent mothers. In the album is a song that tells of Christ’s lowly birth. He left His throne, took the form of flesh and came down for us. Lastly, I have a song dedicated to my country Nigeria. I am very sure that with God on our side, Nigeria will be great again.
“This album was unveiled on the 2nd of August, 2020 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Abraka. The responses from people have really been encouraging. Right now, I am working on my second album to God’s glory and praise.”
