Many Nigerians Shy Away From Seeking Medical Attention Because They Can’t Afford Hopital Bills- Medical Expert

The Medical Director, B.U Clinic/ Hospital, Warri Delta State, Dr Emenena Bright has said many Nigerians are afraid to seek medical attention in hospitals of their choice because they cannot pay the bills after treatment, a situation which he said has led to the death of many which would have been avoided.

Dr. Bright who is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 100 Naira Health Coop Organization stated this today Thursday at the formal launching of 100 Naira Coop Initiative, a health Insurance scheme for Nigrians to have medical attention with less financial burden thereby alleviating the sufferings of Nigeria masses at any level whether rich, average or poor.

This took place in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State.

Speaking on the advantage of the scheme, Dr Emenena Bright said Nigerians, especially the poor need not worry how to get money to foot their medical bills when they are ill as the scheme will enable them pay a token of 100 naira daily to the organization for 90 days or at most for 12 months and get treated free of charge at any given hospital of their choice.

He added those who register with health insurance plan and show real commitment while the payment is on going, may be able to access medical care even before they finish their payment so long they continue to pay.

He said: “The idea of the scheme came in order for all Nigerians especially those who may not be able to foot their medical bills, so, the scheme is meant for Nigrians.”

The Medical Director who said this idea was borne out of the need to improve on the health situation of Nigerians, said, well over 1000 persons have registered with the organization and today, 500 persons are about to be officially registered in the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme, adding these 500 persons have shown real commitment and have been consistent with their contribution.

Dr Bright who said the scheme is able to run because of partnership with Amju Unique MicroFinance Bank Limited, a grassroot financial institution in Nigeria said, the organization is aimed at making the public gain access to medical care with less stress.

He thanked the Delta State government for its passion for healthcare and Dr Ifeanyi Okowa’s true vision in the promulgation of Delta State Contributory Health Scheme law which gave birth to health commission that the 100 Naira Coop Organizationr also partners with

Dr Brighr did not fail to thank Director General of Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr Ben Nkechika for his efforts to see that the organization has smooth sail in this direction.

On his part, the Director General, Delta State Contributory Health Comissionn, Dr. Ben Nkechika thanked Dr Bright Emenena for this laudable Initiave and promised to support the programme to make it a success.
